CBI: Don't forget services in UK-EU trade talks

   Today Programme

   BBC Radio 4
   Carolyn Fairbairn
   CBI

It's set to be a big week for talks on a post-Brexit trade deal, with the UK and the EU expected to finalise their respective negotiating mandates.

Carolyn Fairbairn, director general of the CBI, told the Today programme that her organisation was calling on the government not to exclude the UK's services sector from a planned trade deal.

"We are an 80% services economy," she said. "What we would like to see is the services sector given real priority in these trade talks."

She said the CBI wanted to work in partnership with the government, adding: "This is a time when people really want business and the government to work together."

When asked about reports that pro-Brexit businessman John Longworth, former director general of the British Chambers of Commerce, intended to set up a rival to the CBI, she said: "I think if there are other business organisations, that's absolutely fine."
